    Dec 20, 2012

The City and Borough of Wrangell is asking its citizens for help in lobbying Governor Sean Parnell’s office to help get a public works project in downtown back on track. A proposed renovation of Evergreen Road beginning at the Alaska Marine Highway System ferry terminal, and extending north and then east from the city center, has been a priority item on the Alaska Statewide Transportation Improvement Program since 2008 – holding down the top spot on that list since 2010. Last week it was str...

    Greg Knight|Dec 20, 2012

Even with the drama surrounding the recent move by the Southeast Alaska Power Agency to end an operation and management agreement with Thomas Bay Power Authority, the manager of the Tyee Lake Hydroelectric project, TBPA has one silver lining among the clouds this month. In the early 1970s the communities of Wrangell and Petersburg ran on diesel exclusively – a costly proposition even in that decade. The licensing process and planning for the Tyee Lake tapping project began in 1974 and was undertaken by Harrison Western Corporation. The site, a...

  • Letters to the Editor

    Dec 20, 2012

To the Editor: To the people of S.E. Alaska that are served by SEAPA organization, seems that the $400,000.00 dollars they have saved from not hiring workers, is now slated to be spent on propaganda. And an as of yet unnamed PR company will be quite glad to come get these dollars (you paid them in your electric bill) to come up here and put a spin on what they are attempting to do for your own good. It is just another smack in the face by what is known in the South as a Carpetbagger. Look it up, the term was used after the civil war when it was...
