The Lady Wolves volleyball team hosted an alumni game last Monday, Dec. 23. The volleyball team officially ended their season back in November after competing in regionals. The alumni game is a longstanding tradition for the team to close out the year, testing their skills against former players and other community volunteers. The Lady Wolves, Wrangell’s high school girls’ basketball team, held their annual alumni dinner and game last Tuesday, Dec. 17. The game is a tradition where past and present basketball players come together to celebrate the opening of a new season. Wrangell's volleyball team travelled to Klawock last week, where they faced off against Klawock's home team, Craig, Petersburg, Haines, and Metlakatla. The Lady Wolves volleyball team traveled north this past weekend for the Juneau Invitational Volleyball Extravaganza. The tournament, taking place on Oct. 11 and 12, saw six teams from across Southeast Alaska compete. The Wrangell Cooperative Association held an award ceremony at Wrangell High School Monday evening, Sept. 30. Tribal Administrator Esther Ashton, along with several members of the WCA board, organized the ceremony to officially give several local organizations a check from the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium's "Healthy Is Here" grant. April The Department of Transportation is finally able to get started on a major Wrangell road repaving project. Perforated by potholes, the borough’s Evergreen Avenue will be resurfaced and repaired, with pedestrian improvements and other fixes. The major project has been on hold for half a decade, surviving rounds of budget cuts to capital funding elsewhere in the state along the way.
