While the high school state championship tournament in Anchorage was attracting a lot of hoopla, the Stikine Hoops Invitational was netting plenty of its own excitement back home, including a big win. Team Wrangell Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Girls Basketball Club hosted teams from Petersburg, Ketchikan and Juneau and won first place in the A Team category over the weekend. Wrangell hosted the Stikine Hoops Invitational last week, March 5 to 7. The tournament brought together AAU teams from several Southeast communities, including Sitka, Petersburg, and Juneau. "A" and "B" teams from each community competed through several days of games to get seeded in the final day's bracket. The Stikine Hoops Invitational, an annual tournament hosted by the Wrangell girls’ Amateur Athletics Union, will be coming up again next week. Starting on Feb. 14, AAU teams from Sitka, Juneau, and Petersburg will be coming to Wrangell to compete in the double-elimination tournament.
