Wrangell IGA sponsored a pair of golf tournaments at Muskeg Meadows last weekend. Saturday’s tournament saw 18 participants. First place went to a team composed of Rocky Littleton, Marva Reid, and Rodney Littleton. Second place went to Spencer Stovee, Dwight Yancy, Kevin Roope, and Jim Brooks. Last week, 16 swimmers from the Wrangell Swim Club participated in the Southeast Regional Championship. The championship, held from April 5 to 7, was open to swimmers from the ages of 7 to 16-years-old. According to Jamie Roberts, coach of the swim club, Wrangell's kids competed in 123 different swims. The Wrangell Lady Wolves had a very strong season this year. They went 11 and 3 in their regular season, their only losses coming from the Craig Lady Panthers and the Metlakatla Miss Chiefs. The Wrangell Wolves have come to the end of their season after a difficult series of games in Sitka, at the regional tournament. Teams from all over Southeast Alaska came to compete. The Wrangell Swim Club, the local organization for youth swimmers, has been very busy these past few months. Since December, they have participated in three different championship meets as well as a decathlon. The Wrangell Little League is getting ready for the upcoming season. It is looking to be a fairly exciting one, as well. Thanks to a large turnout in the 2018 season, League President Briana Schilling said that they are anticipating having teams travel and compete in tournaments in the 2019 season. This is something the little league teams have not done in several years, only playing against themselves in previous seasons.
