Bear screen back in place
Volunteers lifted into place and installed the refurbished cedar panels that surround the entrance to Chief Shakes House on April 24. It had been about a dozen years since the Bear Screen panels were repainted, stained and sealed, said Luella Knapp, of the Naanyaa.aayi clan. Linda Churchill, with help from Gary Hamley, worked on the panels over the winter. “Her dedication ensures this protector will stand strong and vibrant against the elements for years to come,” the Wrangell Cooperative Association posted in Facebook of Churchill’s work. Helping with the installation were Mike Hoyt (on the roof), and (from left) Tony Harding, River Guggenbickler, Dillon Rooney and Stone Guggenbickler.
