At this sacred time of year, we celebrate in unity the precious birth of our dear Savior, Jesus Christ. The Christmas season brings many beautiful symbols to commemorate the meaning of His life, ministry and sacrifice which give us all the chance to look unto Him in every thought and live the blessings available to all (Hebrews 12:2, D&C 6:36).
The star atop our Christmas trees reminds us of His foretold coming.
The beautiful colored lights that adorn our houses symbolize Him who is the Light of the World that illuminates the path to joy and happiness in this life and eternal life in the next.
We give gifts to our family and friends as an expression of love and admiration. Our Savior’s gift of His Atonement remains a free gift for everyone to receive for themselves personally, one by one.
Perhaps the most important symbol of all is that of love and charity toward our neighbors. Being charitable is to give freely to others by offering someone a helping hand, a warm meal, a place to stay, a kind word, a forgiving heart, gentle companionship for the lonely, or to help uplift the sad and downtrodden.
These beautiful symbols of Christmastime are an exciting reminder of the divine love Jesus has for every one of us. In essence, by living these traditions we all hold dear, you become the greatest symbol of the love of God. Give the gift of yourself this year. Love like there’s no tomorrow. (John 15:13-14, Mosiah 2:17).
During this Christmas season and throughout the whole year, may we all share in peace, love and joy by remembering our Savior, Jesus Christ. Enjoy this holiday season and cherish the moments that make life special.
Merry Christmas Wrangell.
