Former resident David E. Taylor dies at 66

David E. Taylor passed away Oct. 22, 2025, in his home in Anchorage, after a short battle with lung disease.

David was born in 1959 to Allen and Ruby Taylor. Growing up in Wrangell, he worked several jobs including at the cannery, city maintenance crew and commercial fishing. He also worked as a choker setter at logging camps and was a handyman.

David enjoyed walking, baseball, playing guitar, fishing, hunting, visiting and talking with his friends and family. “He was also known for his generosity to anyone down on their luck and his extreme love of music and coffee,” his family wrote.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his only child; and beloved older sisters Francie Bolstad and Audrey Durnez.

He is survived by his brother, the Allen Taylor family of Mississippi; his sister, the Yvonne Powers family of Wrangell; 13 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

A graveside service was held at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Wrangell on Nov. 4.
