Georgie Dene Sansom (Lindsey), 94, passed peacefully to heaven on the afternoon of March 2, 2026, in Conroe, Texas. “She was loved by many and will be missed, but we take comfort in the legacy of faith and goodness that she leaves behind,” her family wrote.
Born April 11, 1931, to George Elliott Lindsey and Lucy Aridene Davis in Devine, Texas, she was the second child in a loving family with three brothers and a sister.
Georgie and Bob Sansom were married Dec. 28, 1950, and enjoyed more than 75 years together. God, family and service were always front and center for both as they progressed through Bob’s teaching career.
Early in life, Georgie was a centerpiece in many church choirs — she had a beautiful and powerful voice. Just listening to her was a powerful witness.
One could sense Bob and Georgie’s faith in Jesus just by the way they handled their affairs and treated other people. First at Schreiner College (Institute) in Kerrville, Texas, for more than 25 years and later in Alaska, starting in 1980 until they retired around 1997.
After retirement, they spent many summers entertaining family, friends and many lucky acquaintances at their beautiful and rustic home in Wrangell. Georgie had no greater joy than helping someone have a great time fishing in Alaska or cooking for the hunters at camp in Colorado.
As a teenager, Georgie’s mother suffered a serious illness that kept her bedridden for an extended period. Being the oldest daughter, Georgie took on the lead caregiving role for the family. Those lessons were learned well and she always loved to take care of everyone when they came to visit.
Georgie’s was a life truly “well lived,” her family wrote.
Georgie is preceded in death by parents; brothers Curtis, Stanley and Arlen; and son Robert Randall Sansom in the journey to eternity.
She is survived by her loving husband Ira (Bob) Sansom; daughter Iris Thompson; younger sister Elsie Benson; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
