The chamber of commerce, which will continue to run the Fourth of July parade, fireworks and royalty contest, is counting on community groups and individuals to organize and manage all the other events. That effort will start with a community meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the Nolan Center.
“What we’re doing is holding a community discussion on what the community wants,” Lora Lee Mason, the chamber’s executive director, said of the meeting.
Mason will have detailed information on events from past years to hand over to groups or individuals who want to take on the responsibilities for this year’s Fourth celebration.
She recommended that if someone wants to ensure that their favorite event or contest or activity gets a spot on the holiday calendar, they need to attend the meeting and volunteer to run the activity.
“This session will focus on establishing priorities, outlining event needs and gathering community input,” according to the meeting announcement.
The meeting will be available on Zoom for people who cannot attend in person: https://bit.ly/4uwmo6M
Last year, the chamber cut back on managing most every event of the Fourth of July festivities, turning over games and contests to community volunteers and groups so that chamber officials could spend more time focusing on promoting businesses year-round.
