Summer history lesson
Chris Schoen from the Parks and Recreation staff explained the history of the petroglyphs to the kids in the department’s summer program on June 24. In addition to visiting and learning at the Petroglyph Beach State Historic Site, the nature week schedule included help from the U.S. Forest Service, which led a nature scavenger hunt and taught compass and mapping skills to the youngsters. Forest Service staff also had the kids working with natural clay from Anan Creek on June 22. The summer program for kids 8 to 12 years old of activities on Monday, Wednesday and Friday runs through Aug. 14 — but it is fully booked.
