We made our first visit to Wrangell in 2014 by ferry to visit the Anan bear observatory. We enjoyed the scenery and community atmosphere so much that it was the first of many visits.
For the past several years we have been coming annually to fish with Alan Cummings at All In Charters. Last year, we were asked why we keep coming to Wrangell to fish when there are other places that might be better. The short answer is that we come because we love Wrangell.
We have wonderful memories of visiting the bears with Alaska Charters and Adventures, staying with Alan and Leslie Cummings at the aptly named Grand View Bed and Breakfast, great meals at the Stikine, shopping for extra gear at Angerman’s and Sentry, learning more about the area at the excellent Wrangell Museum, picking up picnic supplies at the IGA, John Yeager loaning us a left-handed reel, exploring the petroglyph beach and participating in the fishing derby.
The people of Wrangell make the real difference. When we visit, we don’t feel like outsiders, we feel more like temporary locals. That is the reason we keep coming back.
This year we were fortunate enough to win prizes in the fishing derby. We would like to thank the fishing derby sponsors, Alan and Leslie Cummings, Ryder Ritchie and the Wrangell Chamber of Commerce for giving us one more reason to love Wrangell.
See you next year!
