The Lady Wolves varsity volleyball team traveled to Sitka last weekend to face Baranof Island’s own version of the Lady Wolves while the JV team from Wrangell took part in the Sitka’s invitational tournament.
Sitka dominated both nights as they won easily in a 25-11, 25-17, 25-12 game on Friday, and again of Saturday with set scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-18.
Wrangell was hobbled out of the gate as starters Sasha Ashton and McKenna Harding did not travel with the team. On top of the holes created by their absence, junior Alyssa Allen came out of the game early on Friday with an ankle injury.
“She has a mild sprain that she got during Friday night’s game,” said head coach Jessica Whitaker. “We’re putting ice on it al this week in hopes that she will be able to play against Mt. Edgecumbe.”
The JV team fared far better than the varsity squad, winning nearly all their matches during the invitational tournament hosted by Sitka.
“The girls did great and really put together some great games in the 2A tournament,” Whitaker added.
Scores for the JV games were not available at press time.
The Lady Wolves of Wrangell will host Mt. Edgecumbe this weekend.
