With the coming of Thanksgiving, it is a chance for many Wrangellites to revel in great food with family and friends.
But for some, the holidays can be a time of despair – when ends don’t meet and the giving of thanks can turn to a search for how to put food on the table.
The Wrangell Ministerial Association is looking to put a little hope back into the lives of those in need as they prepare to help those in need with their annual Thanksgiving food basket drive.
Don and Bonnie Roher are leading the initiative to help those less fortunate during the holidays in Wrangell by holding the food basket giveout on Friday, Nov. 18 from 2-6 p.m. at the Harbor Light Assembly of God church.
“It’s extremely important that the people in the community know they are loved and we want them to have the best holiday they can possibly have,” Bonnie said.
The cost of the baskets provided by the Rohers and the church is nearly $50 apiece and contains a turkey, stuffing, potato mix, cranberries, evaporated milk and mixed fruit and vegetables.
It’s a cost Don and Bonnie are looking to their fellow Wrangellites to help with.
“We’re looking for people here in town that want to adopt a family and sponsor a basket or help with a cash donation to assist in paying for the baskets,” Bonnie said. “Anytime between now and the 18th they can bring the cash to Pastor Kem Haggard or call us, and if anyone needs a basket, they can call us anytime.”
For more information on how you can help, or to get a basket, call the Rohers at 305-0319.
