Rep. Wilson files for a seat; but which one?

Representative Peggy Wilson has filed a letter of intent to run for office in 2012 – but hasn’t announced what office she will be seeking.

The veteran GOP representative of Wrangell, who has held her House District 2 seat since 2001, filed the letter with the Alaska Public Offices Commission on Oct. 28.

Wilson’s current seat covers Wrangell, Petersburg and Sitka.

Thanks to the 2010 Census and redistricting, however, Ketchikan and Wrangell will now be joined into a consolidated district that is currently represented by Rep. Kyle Johansen.

Johansen has also filed for re-election for that seat.

Ketchikan Visitors Bureau director Patti Mackey, and Democratic senate aide Dave Scott have also thrown their hats into the ring for the House seat.

Wilson, the whip for the House Majority Caucus and chairwoman of the House Transportation Committee has until June 1 to decide which seat she will file for.

The primary election is set for Aug. 28.
