The Wolves were originally set to face Haines over the weekend. However, due to weather, flights out of the island were canceled and the team’s games were rescheduled to Monday and Tuesday night of this week.
The Wrangell Wolves lost to the Glacier Bears Monday night by one point. The game score was 47-48, according to the scorebooks.
At halftime, Wrangell was trailing by one point with the Wolves scoring 20 points in the first two quarters of the game to Haines’ 21 points. By the end of the third quarter, Wrangell was still behind one point with the scoreboard reading 34-35. The Wolves sank three, three-pointers during the fourth quarter, two of which were by Clayton Stokes and one by senior Travis Bangs.
Yet, those nine points, as well as Stokes’ four successful free throws, were not enough to take the game. Haines scored 13 points as well during the fourth quarter, and maintained the lead by one point.
Wrangell’s high scorer of the game was senior Stokes, with 25 points.
Wrangell coach Ray Stokes could not be reached for comment.
Tuesday’s game in Haines took place after the Sentinel’s deadline. Check the Feb. 2 edition of the paper for game coverage.
The Wolves are on the road again this weekend playing Mt. Edgecumbe. Wrangell will have a chance to play on home court next weekend, Feb. 3 and 4, when they host Petersburg.
