To the Editor:

A recall of the board members will not stop the progress of the new hospital.

If you attended the Health Fair this past weekend, you may have been approached by the hospital staff or board members who spent the weekend telling people that if the recall happens, the new hospital will not. Like much of what you hear from the hospital board, this is simply not true. It is, however, the same old scare tactics, misinformation, bullying and a lace of commitment to behaving like honorable elected officials that we’ve seen for several years now. What could be damaging to the progress of the new hospital is keeping a board and administrator that seemingly spend as much money on lawyers as they do on patient care. They act like they are running a private hospital accountable to no one. It’s time we recall the board members, elect new ones and get a hospital administrator that cares about healthcare and less about private vendettas.

I have known Doctor Salard since he arrived in Wrangell. He is not only a great doctor but a good friend as well. This board and hospital administrator appear to be blind to the fact that they are not only attempting to hurt Doctor Salard’s career, but in the process are advertising to potential doctors applying to Wrangell, that being a doctor here could be a possible career ender for them as well. What doctor in his or her right mind would apply here? This action by the hospital board is extremely harmful to the community and our future health care.
