Wolves face Thunder Mountain, Petersburg

The Wrangell Wolves traveled to Petersburg last weekend to play two different teams, the Vikings and the Thunder Mountain Falcons.

The Wolves lost both games April 14.

Against Thunder Mountain, Wrangell scored one run to the opponent’s 15. The game later in the day against Petersburg was a closer score, but Wrangell lost 4-6.

“That’s a pretty close ball game,” said Wrangell head coach Scott McAuliffe, who added Petersburg was the tougher of the two teams the Wolves faced over the weekend.

McAuliffe said there were a lot of “mental mistakes” made by his team on the field Saturday.

“Baseball is a mental game, and they’re just, for one reason or another, it’s just not happening yet,” he said.

Hopefully, McAuliffe said, with more practice the Wolves will improve.

Wrangell has this weekend off from games. The Wolves tentatively have a home game scheduled against Petersburg on April 26.

The Wolves then head to Ketchikan the weekend of April 27-28 for several games against the Kings, McAuliffe said.

Wrangell’s next home game is tentatively scheduled for the first weekend in May, he said.

The Lady Wolves softball team will play its first home games April 27 and 28, said team coach Katherine Harding.

The Lady Wolves played its first set of games April 6 and 7 against Craig. Wrangell lost April 6, 20-21, and won the following day 27-25.
