WMC CEO evaluation includes questionnaire

The Wrangell Medical Center Board of Directors has decided to distribute a questionnaire regarding WMC Chief Executive Officer Noel Selle-Rea’s annual performance evaluation.

At the April 18 WMC Board meeting, Board President Mark Robinson said in the past, evaluations of WMC CEOs have been either “painful” or “non-existent.”

“This year, I decided I want to get more quantitative in the process,” Robinson said.

The main outcome of the performance evaluation is to hopefully create a planning document that can help the WMC Board and CEO “improve the culture of the building and to perhaps outline areas that may require changes to the operational plan for the hospital,” Robinson wrote in an email to the Sentinel.

The 50-question questionnaire was created by James Orlikoff of the Iowa Hospital Association, according to WMC Board President Mark Robinson.

He said Marv Erisman — a consultant previously hired by WMC — decided who should be sent the questionnaire.

Robinson said 20 questionnaires were distributed. Besides board members, those who received a questionnaire include all department heads at the hospital, a representative from SEARHC and the local ministerial association and the Borough Manager.

Robinson said the consultant fees associated with the questionnaire are “part of an ongoing project at the hospital to evaluate the culture of the building and staff performance.” He did not provide a specific amount for the consultant fees.
