First Bank tournament rolls despite rainout

Thanks to uncooperative weather conditions, the first day of First Bank’s golf tournament at Muskeg Meadows was cancelled, but saw a rescheduled 18-hole and 9-hole event on Sunday, July 22.

The event also featured 21 participants taking part in the 9-hole event on the front-9, and had 22 playing in the back-9.

The 1st place team on the front-9 was Wrangell Golf Club champion James Brooks, and First Bank representatives from Ketchikan, Matt Hagen and Brian Slick. They took the top spot with a net 22 (Team handicap 13) score.

Taking second were club members, Arnie and Kathy Sandness, and local First Bank representative Rebecca Smith on a net 22 (Team handicap 18) final tally

Mike Hay won the Straightest Drive with a 27-foot-6-inch shot from the line – and no players came Closest to the Pin or won the special $30,000 Hole-in-One.

On the back-9, club members Greg Scheff, Ed Rilatos and Randy Littleton took first place with a net 23 (Team handicap 13) score.

The 2nd place team was nearly the same the second time around with Arnie and Kathy Sandness, Rebecca Smith and Chris Ellis going the distance with a net 23 (Team handicap 19) score. No one won the Straightest Drive, Closest to the Pin, or the $30,000 Hole-in-One prizes on the back-9.

The next tournament is scheduled for today as the Bearfest 9-hole event kicks off. Northland Services tournament will be held this weekend, July 28-29.
