The Wrangell Golf Club hosted Bearfest’s 2012 golf tournament on July 26 and featured a 9-hole, 4-person “best-ball” format at Muskeg Meadows Golf Course.
Temperatures topped 70 degrees for the 23 participants who came out to show off their golfing skills in a rare evening tournament that featured a tiebreaker.
The 1st place team consisted of club members Aaron Powell, Mike Ottesen, Jr., Chuck Hay and Tyler Gunn with a Net 19 (team handicap 13) score.
Another team of club members took 2nd place with Eric and Joan Kading, and Keene and Faye Kohrt playing a Net 19 (team handicap 16) game.
Mike Ottesen, Jr. won the “Straightest Drive” with 14.5-foot shot from the line. None of the players scored “Closest to the Pin.”
Because of a tie for first and second place with a net score of 19, scorekeeper Leonard Angerman used designated handicap hole as the tiebreaker, with the top team having one less stroke at 4 on Hole No. 1.
As a fundraiser, Bearfest sold $5.00 “mulligans” and TaylorMade furnished several drivers and putters to lucky drawing winners. A gourmet cheese and salami sampling from Salumi Artisan Cured Meats, in Seattle was also provided to players.
The next event for the course is this weekend, Aug. 4-5, when they host the Totem Bar and Liquor Store tournament. Tee time is set for 10 a.m.
