Roppel retains chairmanship of AHFC board

A Wrangell resident is still sitting atop the board of directors of Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, thanks to his re-election to the post late last month.

The AHFC board re-elected Frank Roppel to serve as the chair of the group at its annual meeting in Wrangell July 25. Former governor Frank Murkowski appointed Roppel in 2003. He has chaired the organization ever since.

Roppel is also the chairman of the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation, which is a subunit of AHFC, and he previously served on the Alaska State Housing Authority and AHFC boards for 12 years in the 1970s and ’80s. He retired from Alaska Pulp Corporation in 2001.

At its annual meeting, the board also re-elected N. Claiborne Porter from Anchorage as vice-chair. Porter has served on the board since May 2005.

The seven-member AHFC board consists of four appointees, each selected by the governor for specialties: Roppel, who has experience in the provision of senior or low-income housing, Porter, with experience in residential energy-efficient home building or weatherization, as well as Brent Levalley of Fairbanks, a finance and real estate expert. The board also includes Marty Shuravloff of Kodiak, who has experience with regional housing authorities.

The remaining three members are state Commissioners: Susan K. Bell, Department of Commerce, Community & Economic Development; Bryan Butcher, Department of Revenue; and William J. Streur, Department of Health & Social Services.
