The Wrangell Early Childhood Coalition has garnered funding for their 2013 fiscal year after being awarded a sizeable grant from Alaska’s Best Beginnings program.
An email from Best Beginnings partnership manager Jonathan Teeter on July 30 informed WECC coordinator Krissy Smith of the awarding of the grant.
“I’d like to congratulate the Wrangell Early Childhood Coalition for submitting a strong application for fiscal year 2013 funding from Best Beginnings,” Teeter stated. “The Best Beginnings Allocations Committee met on Thursday the 26th of July and agreed to award the Wrangell Early Childhood Coalition $25,000 in funding for FY 2013.”
Best Beginnings is an organization that works to ensure that children in communities throughout Alaska are ready to start school and promotes early learning and literacy, family literacy, and education overall.
Smith said she would be in contact with Wrangell advocates of the program for a catch-up.
“As in past years, Best Beginnings requests that the Wrangell Early Childhood Coalition use the total awarded to adjust budgets and operational plans as needed to match the funds available in FY 2013,” Smith said. “I will be calling each partnership chair this week to answer questions and talk through any other particular feedback provided by the Best Beginnings Allocation Committee.”
Those updated budgets and operational plans need to be submitted to Teeters by Aug. 10. Documents submitted will be retained as the final versions of approved budgets and operational plans.
