During the next few weeks, the Irene Ingle Public Library will be offering a new service – e-books.
Library patrons will now be able to browse a website, check out an electronic book with a valid library card, and download its contents to a PC and many other types of mobile devices.
According to library director Kay Jabusch, patrons will need to load software on their devices such as an iPod, Sony Reader, Nook, Kindle or computer. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period and there will be no late fees.
The first year of this program was included in the City and Borough of Wrangell’s library budget for fiscal year 2012-13, with the second year being be funded by a grant from the Institute of Libraries and Museums. The Wrangell Cooperative Association sponsored that second-year funding.
WCA president Ernie Christian said assisting in the program is a way to ensure the educational future of Wrangell’s children.
“It’s always good to help youth learn and read more because it enhances their understanding of the world around them, and Wrangell in particular,” Christian said. “You can do that through sci-fi or historical, or non-fiction perspectives. It makes them think.”
