A business plan for The Wrangell Community Market, written by a University of Alaska Center for Economic Development graduate student, Jamie Arnett, was submitted to the Farmers Market Promotional Program, through the Wrangell Medical Center, at the end of last month.
According to Borough Manager Tim Rooney, city staff through planning and implementation of the pilot farmers market, which took place in Wrangell this year, provided assistance in the development of the business plan.
“The main goal of a farmers market in Wrangell is to make fresh produce available to Wrangell residents,” Rooney stated in his most recent report to the assembly. “Beyond this primary goal, the market is being created to act as a community gathering place and an economic development tool by promoting products that are locally grown, raised, harvested, and handmade.”
The business plan describes operations and strategies for the market and benefits for the vendors and the community as a whole.
“Wrangell looks forward to using the business plan as a guide to continue development of the Wrangell Community Market,” Rooney added.
The public can access the business plan on the City & Borough of Wrangell’s webpage at http://www.wrangell.com.
