Dr. Robert Urata will give a special presentation called "What is Hospice?" on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church.
As a guest of the Hospice of Wrangell, Urata will discuss the history of the hospice movement, and why hospice care at the end-of-life is an important aspect to healthcare for the elderly.
Urata is board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care, and currently serves as Medical Director for Hospice and Home Care of Juneau in addition to his clinical practice. During his visit, he will also meet with hospice volunteers, hospital staff, and family caregivers to discuss end-of-life issues.
Hospice of Wrangell is a local volunteer group established in 2001 to support Wrangell residents with advanced illness.
The following day, on Oct. 28, local social workers Kathi Hall and Alice Rooney will present "Good Grief", which will cover the dynamics of grief. The presentation will be followed by a short session on communication problems related to hearing loss and strokes.
The public is invited to all sessions, which will be held at the church.
Contact Harriet Schirmer or Alice Rooney for further information.
