Theodore Lanado Lynch, 61, a career fisherman born and raised in Wrangell, is presumed drowned after going overboard from his boat, the Darlin Michele, while shrimping near Skagway on October 29, 2012.
Ted Lynch was a member of a family well known in Wrangell, a child of Michael Lynch Jr., and Rosalina Rosita Lanado (“Nana”) Lynch.
The Lynch family moved to Seattle on a seine boat when Ted was 7, but he began fishing summers in Alaska with his father when he was 10, according to family members. Until recently Lynch fished nearly year-round, gillnetting, seining, longlining, crabbing, and shrimping. At one time or another, he participated in all of Alaska’s major fisheries, working out of Dutch Harbor, Kodiak, Bristol Bay, the Pribilofs, Sitka, and Haines. He also fished with his brothers for tuna in Hawaii.
Lynch is survived by children Summer Michele, Nels, TeoLani, and Keanu of Haines, and by Darlin and Steve Bugni of Yuba City, Calif.; grandchildren Hawk Sanchez of Yuba City and Lani Lynch of Haines; and siblings Kathleen “Beanie” Marquart of Portland, Ore., Tanya Bonorden of Sitka, Marilyn Lynch of Seattle, Julianne Frick of Juneau, Michael “Mickey” Lynch III and Nelson “Rocky” Lynch, both of Oahu, Hawaii.
Those who knew Ted will never forget his calm and gentle ways. Nor will any forget his trademark smile, which he was always so quick to give.
