Wrangellites are known for their love of fish, trees and the great outdoors – and now, one young woman who was born and raised here is being recognized for her love of art.
Haley Waddington, a 2002 graduate of Wrangell High School, is pursuing her career in Spokane, Wash. and recently began working out of a studio in the Spokane Valley where she was showcased in a half-page feature story in the Spokesman Review newspaper on Jan. 17.
Waddington said she was overwhelmed by how much attention her art received in the story.
“It was exciting because I didn’t know how big the article was going to be,” Haley said.
The story in the Spokane newspaper featured her with a photo of acrylic paintings and a quilt she made while in living in Washington. Her work is currently on display in a number of galleries in the Spokane area.
Her grandmother, Clara Haley, added that she was amazed to see Waddington in the paper – and was ebullient about her success.
“I’m really excited for her,” Clara said. “She told me she is going to be having her own art show and she has opened a business of her own too. I am so happy for her. She is awesome.”
Waddington graduated in 2004 from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Fla., where she majored in computer animation.
