ACF scholarship for Wrangell now open

As graduation approaches, high school seniors and students currently enrolled in post-secondary education are looking for ways to finance the upcoming school year.

Because of that, the Alaska Community Foundation is supporting Alaskan students in their educational and career pursuits through a number of scholarship opportunities available in 2013. From students pursuing technology education, to nursing students planning to work in rural Alaska, and students who are the first in their family to go to college, a wide range of students is slated to benefit from ACF scholarships.

Before applying, students are encouraged to learn more about ACF scholarships at http://www.alaskacf.org/scholarships. Students should read the scholarship guidelines carefully, including eligibility criteria and application requirements, which are different for every scholarship. Many scholarship applications are online, however some must be submitted by mail.

The Wrangell Scholarship is now open and was created in 2011 to honor the memory of Tadao Sasayama, founder of the Alaska Pulp Corporation with awards of $5,000, which are renewable for up to 4 years, to three Wrangell High School seniors who plan to pursue post-secondary education. The deadline for applications is April 1.

Established in 1995, ACF is a statewide platform for philanthropy. Holding over $55 million for the benefit of Alaskans, ACF grants $5-6 million each year to charitable projects and nonprofit organizations across the state. It is comprised of more than 280 funds and endowments, including nine affiliate community funds, the Alaska Children’s Trust, and many others.

According to a press release, its mission is to grow philanthropy by helping individuals, organizations, and communities create funds that provide financial resources to improve the quality of life in Alaska now and forever. The Alaska Community Foundation connects people who care with causes that matter.
