Meet The Candidates – MAYOR

DAVID JACK

Why should the Borough Assembly appoint you as the next Mayor of Wrangell?

I have served on the Assembly for over three years. I am familiar with issues before the Assembly. The office of Mayor requires a great deal of time on the part of any person serving in that capacity. I am retired and have the time to give to the position.

What are some of you top priorities should be named as Mayor of the City and Borough of Wrangell?

First is to continue toward building a new hospital and continue to develop and improve The Marine Service Center.

Name two major issues that, in your opinion, are facing the city in the coming year?

Whether the Borough has to finance a new hospital as currently envisioned. It may be that a smaller more practical design would best serve the needs of the people for now and the foreseeable future. The legal issue involving Noel Rea and the prior hospital board needs to be resolved and put behind us so we can move forward for the betterment of the community.

Why should the Borough Assembly appoint you as the next Mayor of Wrangell?

Because I have no agenda, I know virtually no one and have no alliances to get in the political way. My head sets firmly upon my shoulders, and I don’t need anything so I can’t be bought off. This is now my home; I wish nothing more than health and prosperity for everyone.

What are some of you top priorities should be named as Mayor of the City and Borough of Wrangell?

To promote and expand upon our marinas, with an eye on repair of commercial fishing ships. To promote Wrangell as a tourist stop, possibly adding some small attractions for the use of visitors. Promote and expand private investment and small industry, be a good place for people to live. By all means jobs, jobs, jobs for everyone that wants one.

Name two major issues that, in your opinion, are facing the city in the coming year?

The WMC’s ongoing problems, with the credentialing of Dr. Salard. The controversy over the new haul out. Also, the settlement from Noel Rea and the old board. All these items rest upon my mind as issues that need fresh eyes upon them, we are not moving positively forward, I can change that, without being in the good ol’ boy club. In conclusion I believe this to be an honor to serve my new home.
