Charlie Gadd, age 28 of Wrangell, pled no contest to one count of Commercial Fishing Closed Season-Dungeness Crab. The conviction was the result of an Alaska Wildlife Trooper investigation that showed Gadd negligently left 16 commercial Dungeness pots in fishing condition after the close of the commercial season. Gadd was fined $3000 with $1500 suspended and placed on probation for one year.

Sunday, February 3:

At 2000 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers Petersburg Post observed an unoccupied vehicle roll over near mile 10 of Mitkof Highway. Investigation revealed Bodine Rogers, age 42 of Klawock, lost control, crossed the centerline, struck an embankment, and rolled his vehicle. Rogers and his passenger suffered only minor scrapes and bruises. The vehicle sustained extensive damage. Rogers failed to report the collision by the quickest means necessary to law enforcement. Rogers was issued a summons for fail to report, arraignment is set for February 26th in the Petersburg District Court.

Tuesday, February 5

At approximately 2334 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report that a body was discovered in a community building by a community employee in Kake, Alaska. The local EMS responded and confirmed that an individual was deceased. Alaska State Troopers from Juneau and the Alaska Bureau of Investigation from Anchorage, along with a crime scene response team from the State Crime Detection Laboratory, responded to Kake to investigate. Family identified the deceased as 13-year-old Mackenzie H. Howard. Howard was found deceased by a member of the community inside the arctic entry of the Memorial Presbyterian Church. Howard’s body will be sent to Anchorage for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of her death. Troopers will remain in Kake through the evening and into tomorrow as the crime scene is being processed and interviews are being conducted.
