After a four-game winning streak over Haines during the past two weeks, the Wolves basketball team dropped a pair in Metlakatla as the Chieftains held Wrangell to 32 points on both Friday and Saturday nights.
The Chieftains took home their first win in a 47-32 final score that saw Wrangell senior Ryan Reeves rise to the occasion and make his usual double-digit tally. He ended the night on Friday with 12 points, including a deep three-pointer in the opening minutes of the third period.
Devon Miller followed Reeves with 8 points, while Jacob Marshall added five points, including a trey in the first half. Blake Stokes had 4 points on the night, with Bryce Gerald adding two points. Blaine Wilson added one point, going 1-2 from the line.
Head coach Ray Stokes said the team played well on Friday night and only lost after a slow surge by Met.
“We started out Friday night playing very well, and we even went ahead at one point,” Stokes said. “In the second half, they just chipped away and ended up getting us by 15 points.”
Reeves missed double-digit territory on Saturday, as he was only able to put up 7 points. Stokes led the effort with 9 points, while Miller and Jacob Marshall added six of their own. Wilson put up three points, with Robert Marshall shooting a pair of free throws.
Metlakatla won their Saturday night effort 50-32.
The Wolves will travel to Craig this weekend.
