Christ Massin, 89, passed away on February 16, 2013 in Gardnerville, Nev. at the Carson Valley Senior Living Home following a brief illness.
He was born October 21, 1923, in Dickinson, N.D., to Michael and Magdalena Massin. He was the last survivor of 12 children.
He was a WWII veteran, serving part of his duty in the Aleutians. After WWII, Christ attended the University of Idaho at Moscow and then moved to the Reno, Nev. area where he held jobs in the bakery industry and recreational trailer courts. Christ’s long time passion was taking the bus to downtown Reno to play Keno at Harolds Club, Fitzgeralds and the Cal Neva.
He enjoyed making brief but memorable trips to Wrangell, Anacortes and Culbertson to visit brothers, a sister and nephews and nieces. Everyone looked forward to his visits as he would announce himself with a loud “deal” and then proceed to hand out used playing cards from the Nevada casinos.
Christ was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and seven brothers and close Reno friend Ursula Arnesen.
He is survived by some 25 nephews and nieces in Alaska, Washington, Montana and Nevada. Christ will be put to final rest in Wrangell.
