Letters to the Editor

Just read the latest on SEAPA, says some are mystified by why we would want them out. Okay I can help with that, with the publicly available dollar numbers that have been available to every person in Wrangell. Broken down to the basics, based upon population SEAPA in Wrangell costs each person almost $30.00 a month. Purchasing Thomas Bay would cost each person slightly more than $15.00 a month. This debt would be paid off in 20 years. SEAPA is an ongoing expense, with no expiration date, no pay off date. We are always in debt for maintaince costs, as well as upgrades. So each and every person here in Wrangell would be off the hook for around $15.00 per person per month if SEAPA were eliminated. SEAPA always has stated that they do all the STRAIN calculations. Sounds impressive.... only because most do not know what that is. What it is ...is the amount of sag in the overhead wires due to heating from the Amperance in the wires. Or if you wish to use a lot of electricity when it’s warm outside the wires grow longer and can sag into untrimmed trees. It’s a valid engineering tool, however they use it as a play on words, a catch phrase, yabba dabba doo.

The cost of hiring an outside PR firm will be around $300,000.00 of which $3,000.00 has been spent on finding out how much that we will be on the hook for with PEERS, the retirement payouts. Be assured all of the rest of any data provided will be either junk science or slanted toward the absurd, as goes the desperate politics of these times.

Funny they have all of this money, yet refuse to purchase tools and supplies to keep the lights on, at a cost of $80,000.00. These would be virtually forever as it goes for tools, parts wear out so parts are parts. Remember when our control is gone it’s gone forever. Right now we have people here to fix and maintain our power plant. Not some fly by night that would swoop in and out leaving us the bill. Or the loss of incomes that get spent in this community 7 times over with taxes, supplies, rent, groceries, gas, etc. Also these new hires that people spoke of at the same time they want to fire people. This technique is fire the older experienced worker because of cost of pay and benefits, hire at less pay and benefits pocket the difference. The battle cry should be remember our mills, kick out these carpetbaggers.
