Chamber moves into new office at Stikine Inn

The Wrangell Chamber of Commerce has moved from their former location on Front Street to a new home at the Stikine Inn, in the office space formerly used by the Parlor Salon.

Cyni Waddington, the office manager for the Chamber, said the move would allow more of the visitors who come to Wrangell to discover facts about the Borough, its businesses, and provide access to the Stikine Inn’s tenants and services.

“The opportunity presented itself and we took it because we thought it would be a wonderful location for visitors coming in from the tour ships and it is going to be a hub because we will have Alaska Waters next door and the Stikine restaurant and coffee shop as well on the other side,” Waddington said. “We just thought this would be a perfect location.”

According to Waddington, the main windows of the new office, which face City Dock, will be adorned with decorative lettering in the near future – signage that will direct incoming visitors to the chamber as well as other businesses in the area.

“We’re going to have signs in the windows and have professional signs by (Stikine Inn owner) Bill Goodale that will be on the sides of the building showing the different businesses in the Stikine. That way people can find us and other businesses in the area.”

The Alaska Waters tour guide office will also be a tenant directly adjacent to the chamber office.

Jake Harris, the manager of the Stikine Inn, added that having the chamber in his building would add to the prestige of the property and allow visitors easy access to businesses and services offered in town.

“I think there is no better location in town to showcase what Wrangell has to offer,” Harris said. “It’s a great location as well because it’s central to the businesses in downtown. For us, it’s great advertising for folks coming through Wrangell. The new location is beneficial to everybody.”
