Borough set to pick new manager

Officials will decide upon and announce a new borough manager in one swoop Nov. 12.

The borough has been looking for a new manager since the resignation of Tim Rooney this summer. Finance director Jeff Jabusch has served as the interim manager since Rooney’s resignation.

The borough received 15 applications for the position from throughout Alaska and other places. Of these 15, five were selected as potential finalists. Assembly members winnowed that number to four.

The remaining candidates are: retired 15-year borough clerk Christie Jamieson, who – if selected – would be the first Tlingit woman to hold the position; Kyle H. McCain, a longtime city manager for multiple cities in Texas; Jon Erickson, a planner with a state agency and one-time city administrator with Thorne Bay on Prince of Wales Island; and Jabusch, who has served as the city’s finance director since 1977.

Assembly members haven't eliminated any additional candidates from consideration since narrowing the field, said Mayor David Jack.

The announcement will come during the assembly’s regularly scheduled meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. in the assembly chambers.
