The Lady Panthers outshot the Lady Wolves twice this weekend.
Wrangell lost both games to Craig by double digit margins, dropping the opener 58-39 and Saturday's game 58-40. The losses bring their season conference record to 2-6.
"Our defense is there," said head coach Edna Abella-Nore. "This is a shooting team, and they all can shoot. They all shot from the outside."
"If you look at the score sheet, a lot of them shot three-pointers," Abella-Nore added. "We are playing against last year's number one state team."
Nor were the Lady Panthers limited to the perimeter, Abella-Nore said.
"They're a team that can go either inside or outside," she said. "They're not afraid to shoot, and they're not afraid to attack the basket."
Bad falls again plagued the Lady Wolves, Abella-Nore said.
"We were shooting the ball, but our baskets just weren't going in," she said.
The Lady Wolves will focus on improving their shooting this week.
Senior Erica Smith – honored at a senior recognition before Saturday's game – led the Wrangell offense Friday and Saturday.
Friday night Smith shot 16 points from the field and three-for-four from the line to open the weekend against the Lady Panthers with 19 total points. Wrangell newcomer Amy Jenson and sophomore Taylor Bean contributed 10 points each. Jenson shot a two-point field goal and a three-pointer. Bean sank two from the field and one-for-five from the line.
Kimber Miculecky led the Lady Panthers with 17 Friday night, 15 from the field and two-for-four from the line.
Marie Yates followed with 13 points, 12 from the field and one from the line.
Smith led again with 12 points Saturday, five from the field and two-for-two from the line to close out the last home weekend of her Wrangell basketball career with 31 total points. Jenson followed with eight points from the field and two more from the free-throw line.
Craig put on a perimeter shot light show in answer. Kimber Miculecky tied Smith's 19-point output, mainly on the back of four behind-the-arc shots in the first half. Miculecky also sank a three and two field goals in the third to close out the weekend with 36 points.
Yates tallied 13 points again Saturday night, 11 from the field and two-for-four from the line.
Junior Varsity
The JV Lady Wolves fared slightly better than their varsity counterparts.

Friday night Jenson – who performed double duty for the Varsity – led the offense with 14 points on seven two-point field goals, tacking on 10 points in the fourth quarter alone. Dora Voltz, Marsha McCay, Alex Campbell and KayDee Howell followed with four points each.
No member of the Craig squad managed to score in the double digits. Skylar Burnham led the JV Lady Panthers with five points on a single field goal and three-for-four from the line. Nicole Mackie followed with four points.
McCay led the Lady Wolves Saturday with nine points, eight from the field and one-for-five from the free-throw line. Jenson followed with seven points, sinking a single field goal and shooting five-for-six from the line.
The Craig junior varsity team came to life Saturday night. Alicia Barlow, held to only two points the night before, led the Lady Panthers with 12 points on three field goals and six-for-eleven from the line. Mackie followed with seven points on a three, a field goal and two-for-four from the line.
The Lady Wolves continue their season on the road in Metlakatla this weekend.
