The Lady Wolves split games this weekend in Haines.
They won the opener 35-26 and lost the Saturday sequel, 34-43.
Senior Erica Smith led the Wrangell offense Friday with 11 points on four field goals and two-for-three from the line. Sophomore Taylor Bean and Amy Jenson followed with eight points each. Bean sank two field goals and shot four-for-seven from the line. Jenson scored four field goals.
The Haines offense was unable to muster a major response Friday. Sophomore Kayley Swinton led the Lady Glacier Bears with eight points on three field goals and two-for-five from the line. Seniors Libby Jacobsen and Grace Jones followed with five points each. Jacobsen sank a three and shot two-for-two from the line. Jones put in two field goals and a single free-throw shot.
Smith repeated atop the score sheet Saturday with 16 points on four field goals – two from behind the arc – and six-for-six from the line. Jenson followed with three field goals – one from beyond the arc and two-for-three.
The Lady Glacier Bears fielded two double-digit scorers Saturday. Jacobson led with 18 points on five field goals – four from beyond the arc – and four-for-eight from the line. Swinton followed with 11 points on four field goals and three-for-seven.
Junior Varsity
The JV Lady Wolves took two games from the JV Lady Glacier Bears.
They won the Friday opener 50-35 and repeated Saturday 39-22.
Bean – who did double duty as a Varsity player – led the JV offense with 14 points on five field goals and four-for-seven from the line. Sophomore Kyla Teat followed with 16 points, all from the field.
Freshman Olivia Wing led the JV Lady Glacier Bears offense with 17 points on five three-pointers and two-for-three from the line. Sophomore Jenae Larson followed with seven points on three field goals and one-for-six.
The JV Lady Wolves had an even-keeled offensive contribution Saturday evening. Bean, Jenson, and Teat each contributed eight points. Bean shot three field goals and two-for-four from the line. Jenson shot three field goals and two-for-two from the line. Teat shot three field goals and two-for-six from the line. Freshman Alex Campbell followed with seven points on three field goals and one-for-eight.
Wing and Sophmore Autumn Gross tied atop the Haines score sheet with six points each. Wing shot two three-pointers. Gross shot three field goals. Freshman Lyric Wiggins followed a single field goal and three-for-four from the free-throw line.
The Lady Wolves begin tournament play March 5 in Juneau.
