Katarina Sostaric graduated this spring from the University of Missouri-Columbia and wanted to see somewhere beautiful.
Less than a month and a half later, and after a few days of training in Juneau, Sostaric arrived as KSTK's news staff reporter June 12.
"I wanted to be a public radio reporter and go somewhere that was beautiful and had a lot of nature, so this seemed like a good place," she said.
Sostaric's arrival in Wrangell marks her first full-time job out of college, though she's previously worked for the Columbia, Missouri NPR affiliate.
Sostaric, originally from the Chicago suburbs, says she enjoys Wrangell so far.
"I really like it so far, everyone's been nice and helpful trying to get me settled here," she said.
Sostaric will replace Shady Grove-Oliver who departed the station in March to work with a Homer radio station where she is now a news director.
"I'm still trying to get kind of informed about all the issues, trying to pick up where Shady left off," Sostaric said. "I'm still trying to get into that."
