Rob Rooney Sr. kneels beside the bull moose he bagged Monday morning, just before cleaning the carcass at the Wrangell dock. Estimated at around 700 pounds, his was the first of the new season to be brought back to Wrangell. He had just begun hunting with his son and four others near the Stikine River that morning when he spotted it. "It opened at sunrise, and we shot it at 7:50 a.m.," recalled Jason Rooney. The senior Rooney said it was his 45th official moose.
