Borough elections on Tuesday

Residents of Wrangell are invited to cast their votes in the Borough regular election Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Nolan Center, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Registered voters are asked to bring a form of identification to the polls.

Official candidates for this year’s regular election include:

– Two candidates for the position of Mayor, incumbent David Jack and Kipha Valvoda. The position is a two-year term.

– Two candidates for a three-year term on the School Board, Aleisha Mollen and incumbent Susan Eagle.

– Two candidates for two three-year terms on the Borough Assembly, incumbent Mark Mitchell and Stephen Prysunka.

– One candidate for a one-year unexpired term on the Assembly, incumbent Becky Rooney.

– One candidate for a three-year term on the Port Commission, Walter Moorhead.

– Two candidates for two four-year terms on the Wrangell Medical Center Board, incumbent Cori Robinson and Beth Blake.

Those interested in running as a write-in candidate can still do so, but must submit their letter of intent to the Borough Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. tomorrow. The office’s mailing address is P.O. Box 531, Wrangell, AK 99929. Write-in votes for individuals who have not filed a letter of intent will not be counted.

Information on voter registration and the election are available at an informational table in the lobby at City Hall.

Following the advice of the Alaska Division of Elections, the Borough this year will no longer allow members of the media or the general public to attend a reading of the preliminary results. Those results will be emailed afterward to the media and members of the Assembly by the Borough Clerk, and be posted to http://www.wrangell.com under the elections tab.
