Local humanities teams require small army of volunteers

Sydney Reed of Wrangell High School’s Drama, Debate and Forensics (DDF) teams is looking for volunteers interested in assisting meets being hosted at the school on Nov. 14 and 15.

“To host a successful meet we need volunteers to sign up to time and judge events,” Reed explained. “We’re hoping that the six schools will all be coming.”

There is a need to fill 160 volunteer slots, divided equally between judging and timing events for 90 minute periods. Clinics for the judging will be held next week on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the high school commons area.

There are twelve different events broken into four categories, including interpretation, fellow acting, expository speaking, extemporaneous commentary, reader’s theater and a public forum debate. Wrangell’s DDF team has nine students this year.

The meet will close with command performances from 7-8:30pm on Nov. 15 in the Nolan Center, where winners will be announced and some of the best performers will be called to present their pieces.

Those interested in assisting can contact Reed at 305-0469.
