Alaska Island Community Services announced last week the addition of a new dentist to its staff, Dr. Charles Haubrich.
"That's a huge enhancement to continuity of care," explained Terry Wagner, CHC operations manager for AICS. Previously Wrangell's dental office used locums, or specialists hired on a temporary basis.
Haubrich has over 20 years' dentistry experience, skilled in restorative, crown and bridge, dentures and endodontic work. After operating his own practice in Ferndale, Wash., for 17 years, Haubrich said he's tired of the business management end and wanted a change.
"He's a nice guy and a great dentist," said Wagner.
First providing temporary work as a locum in Wrangell over the summer, he and his wife, Pam, joined the AICS team last October. She works as a consultant for the behavioral health center.
Since arriving, the two have helped AICS prepare for the move of its dental office to the Grant Building at 222 Front Street.
"Everything is going to be upgraded and improved," said Haubrich. "It's going to be a different experience."
Wagner explained the new location will be more aesthetically pleasing than its current Kadin Building location, and will sport four operatories instead of three. This should improve patient flow, allowing for more people to be seen.
The old clinic will be closed next week for the transition, reopening its doors at the new location on Feb. 2. An open house celebrating the new office will be announced in the near future.
