Applications being accepted for American Seafoods grant program

The Community Advisory Board of American Seafoods Company announced it will be accepting applications for its Alaska community grant program. The deadline for applications is Feb. 17. Since its inception in 1997, the CAB has granted over $1.25 million to organizations and programs in Alaska. For this particular application, small grants totaling $38,000 will be allocated to community projects addressing issues such as hunger, housing, safety, education, research, natural resources and cultural activities. The majority of awards range from $500 to $3,000 per organization, and recipients will be chosen on Feb. 25. At its Dec. 2014 meeting, CAB awarded $43,500 to 29 different organizations, including $2,500 to the City of Mekoryuk Volunteer Search and Rescue, $1,500 to Kodiak Soil and Water Conservation District, and $1,000 to Cordova Historical Society. Criteria for evaluating proposals will be based on community need, project benefits, number of people expected to benefit from the program, and the ability to garner additional funding.
