King limit changes in Wrangell Narrows, Blind Slough

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG) Division of Sport Fish announced a bag and possession limit of king salmon in the Wrangell Narrows-Blind Slough Terminal Harvest Area, which took effect on Monday and will last through July 31.

King salmon limits for residents and nonresidents will be two fish for those measuring 28 inches or greater, and two for those less than 28 inches. King salmon caught by nonresident anglers in the terminal harvest area will not count toward the 2015 nonresident annual limit.

The terminal harvest area includes the portion of the Wrangell Narrows south of Martinesen's Dock and northeast of the northern tip of Woewodski Island and the fresh waters of Blind Slough upstream of a line between Blind and Anchor points.

ADFG anticipates 2,300 Crystal Lake Hatchery king salmon are expected to return to the terminal area this year. Returns of this size should provide for hatchery broodstock needs while allowing a liberalized sport fishing opportunity.

Anglers are reminded that snagging is not legal in the fresh waters of Blind Slough. When fishing upstream of the line between Blind and Anchor points, any fish hooked elsewhere than in the mouth must be released immediately.
