The Alaska Board of Fisheries last week released its 2015-2016 Proposal Book for review. Some 215 proposals were accepted for review during the board’s regulatory meetings.
Regulations potentially to be affected include Pacific cod and finfish in the Alaska Peninsula, Chignik and Bering Sea-Aleutian Island areas; Bristol Bay finfish; Arctic, Yukon and Kuskokwim finfish; and statewide finfish.
Proposals may be downloaded off the board’s website in sections, as well as for full meetings, at http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=fisheriesboard.proposalbook. Copies of the proposed regulation changes can also be requested from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game by calling 465-4110 during regular office hours.
In the board’s final report for the Gulf of Alaska Pollock Workgroup held in March, pollock proposals for all state-waters were also recommended for inclusion among this year’s proposals. The workgroup is a multi-year effort to examine the benefits and downsides of establishing state-waters pollock fisheries.
Individuals wishing to submit pollock proposals have until Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. to send submissions. Submissions may be emailed to dfg.bof.comments@alaska.gov or faxed at (907) 465-6094. Mail-in information and proposal forms can be found at the Fisheries Board website.
Pollock proposals will be included with the online proposal book and mailed to all advisory committees and the public for review and comment. Those sending in submissions are encouraged to review the proposal book at their earliest convenience to ensure proposals are included and accurate. Noted errors and omissions should be reported to Boards Support immediately.
Responsive state-waters pollock proposals are expected to be considered at the Statewide Finfish General Provisions and Supplemental Issues meeting, set tentatively for March 8-12, 2016 in Anchorage.
