Forty pairs of rubber boots from Wrangell ended up on the capitol steps in Juneau last week, more than a quarter of the 150 pairs collected statewide. Juneau-based group Inside Passage Waterkeeper held a drive last month to collect the boots and raise awareness of mining issues affecting Canada and Alaska's shared waters. Photographs of Alaskans supporting the movement were included in the display, including Wrangell resident Clara Haley (bottom center). Protesters also picketed on the steps to promote their message.
