Service award goes to Hannah's Place

Prenatal and parent support center Hannah’s Place received $5,000 from Wells Fargo & Company, after being approved for a Volunteer Service Award. The bank’s Wrangell branch manager Aleisha Mollen presented the award on Oct. 24, which will help fund needed equipment, such as a new fetal heart monitor.

Hannah’s Place is a community resource center that started in 2011. Its mission is to actively inform, network with, and care for young mothers and women in need in the Wrangell area. In addition to classes, Hannah’s Place offers free and confidential pregnancy testing, community referrals and counseling, and its “Mommy Store” helps new parents purchase infant necessities and equipment with vouchers earned through those classes.

Wells Fargo’s contribution recognizes Mollen’s volunteer efforts with this nonprofit. She has been trained to teach prenatal care, birthing, life skills and parenting classes, and currently serves as vice-president on the Hannah’s Place board. Mollen is also taking a grant writing course to help raise money for additional equipment.

Over the past two years Mollen has volunteered more than 600 hours of her time for nonprofits in Wrangell, including Hannah’s Place. In 2014 she earned a $1,000 service award for Camp Carmel on Vank Island.
