Kevan A. Blount, 23, appeared before First District Judicial Officer Chris Ellis to face a charge of Driving

Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs. The defendant pleaded guilty to the Class A Misdemeanor charge. Blount was ordered to serve 45 days in jail, with 42 days suspended; pay a $2,000 fine with $500 suspended; pay $380 for cost of imprisonment and jail

surcharges; and seek and complete substance abuse treatment. Blount’s license has been revoked for 90 days, must use an ignition interlock device for six months after driving privileges are regained, and remain on probation for one year.

Wednesday, October 28

Harold T. Schouweiler, 63, appeared before First District Magistrate Chris Ellis for the charge of Taking a Sublegal Moose, a violation. The defendant pleaded no contest, and was fined $300 plus a $10 police training surcharge. The moose carcass was forfeited to the State, to be distributed for charitable purposes in the Petersburg area. A Petersburg resident, Schouweiler’s case was heard in Wrangell due to a conflict.

Murray R. Hayes, 62, appeared before First District Magistrate Christine Ellis on the charge of Retention of Lingcod Bycatch, a violation. The defendant pleaded no contest and was ordered to pay $400 restitution for the value of the fish, a $100 fine, and a $10 police training surcharge.
