2016 game proposal book available for review

The proposal book for next year’s Alaska Board of Game regulations is now available for review. One hundred and

thirty-eight proposals have been included for consideration at the ABG annual meeting

in Fairbanks from March 18 to 28.

The proposals generally

concern statewide changes to hunting and trapping

regulations under 5 AAC Chapter 92. The board will also consider 29 statewide sheep hunting season items which were accepted under an expanded call for proposals this year. Other categories will include bear baiting, unlawful taking of game, off-road

vehicle policy, antlerless

moose and game management units.

Proposals were submitted by members of the public, organizations, advisory committees, and Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG) staff. The proposals are published essentially as they were received, and have been presented as brief statements summarizing the intended regulatory changes.

The public is encouraged to review and comment on these proposals, taking into

consideration written or oral testimony on any effects the proposed changes might have on individuals’ activities. Public comment is considered along with advisory committee comments ADFG staff

presentations, together

providing the ABG with useful biological and socioeconomic data with which to form decisions.

Proposals are organized by broad topics and listed in the tentative order to be considered during the Fairbanks meeting. The final order of proposals to be deliberated, called a “roadmap,” will be available approximately two weeks before the meeting.

Generally, the board allows five minutes for oral testimony for an individual or an

organization, and 15 minutes for advisory committees. Those testifying once for an

organization and once as an individual will be allotted separate times. The board chair will announce the length of time for testimony at the beginning of the meeting. Time limits on

testimony do not include

questions the board members may have.

Comments must be received by March 4. Comments and requests to provide testimony can be submitted by mail to ATTN: Board of Game Comments - Alaska Department of Fish and Game Boards Support Section, P.O. Box 115526, Juneau, AK 99811-5526.
