December 23, 1915: The Wrangell Public School held their Christmas exercises this afternoon, a Christmas tree in the primary room, a tree and program in the intermediate room and a party in the higher grades. Mr. Donald Sinclair

presented the school with a crate of oranges and a box

of apples, which were very gratefully received by all.

The children are now out on Christmas vacation until Jan. 3.

December 20, 1940: “To my people, our brothers

and neighbors, may the spirit of Christmas fill you with kindly acts; with brotherly feeling for one another. Our country remains one of freedom, our loyalty to it and one another has made it so. Our continuing conduct of faithfulness ever will secure peaceful and happy Christmases for us and for our children. May

all your hearts be filled with happiness at Christmas and through every day ahead.” Chief Kudanake Shakes VII.

December 24, 1965: On Monday night, Dec. 27 at 7:30 Wrangell High School will play the vacationers at the

annual Christmas basketball game. The vacationers expect to employ such past players as Skip Larsen,

Terry Sharnbroich, Jemiel Lemley, Jake Truitt, Craig Campbell, Jack Urata and others expected home from college for the Christmas vacation. Supporting these boys will be John Ellis and any other recent high school graduates who are in town. This will be the opportunity for some of the local fans to see some of the past starts of Wrangell High School in action this year. It is possible that Howie Fennimore will be home and will participate. The high school Wolves plan to show the alumni that they can play ball. This game will be the last scheduled game until Jan. 7 and 8 when Haines will meet the Wolves on the local court.

December 20, 1990: Wrangell General Hospital has announced that longtime Wrangell physician Dr. Harriet Schirmer will serve Wrangell on a temporary basis through the Stikine Physicians Clinic. Schirmer will work from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 24 through Jan. 4, except Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and weekends, when the clinic will be closed. These office hours will be for acute illnesses and injuries and required follow-ups, according to clinic staff. No routine physicals will be performed during this time. Schirmer will also be on call for emergency room care. The clinic will open Jan. 7 with a temporary physician and full-time office hours. Dr. Davenport is expected to return from vacation and resume office hours in mid-January, clinic staff reported.
